Argentine Government Plans Extraordinary Parliamentary Session

Buenos Aires, November 22 (NA) – The Government is evaluating officially calling extraordinary sessions before December 10, official sources informed the Argentine News Agency. Meanwhile, the Secretary Parliamentary of the Chamber of Deputies, Adrián Pagán, formally summoned the elected legislators for December 3 to hold the preparatory session for the oath-taking in Congress. According to the document, to which the Argentine News Agency had access, this session will be held that Wednesday, December 3, at 13:00 in the Lower Chamber. Days earlier, the 24 senators who were elected in the October elections will take their oaths in a preparatory session to be held in the Upper Chamber on November 28 at 11:00, although they will assume their seats on December 10, along with the deputies. Meanwhile, the Government is evaluating a potential split of the extraordinary session dates to tackle in batches the main reforms and bills it aspires to pass in the second half of its term. Although the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, intends to extend the sessions into January, it is most likely that there will be a recess during that month and activity will resume from February 1 to 28.
